Dominican Republic vacations range from Punta Cana's endless Bavaro beach to the green north coast, whale-season Samana and the quieter La Romana and Miches. Punta Cana is the headline, one of the most-booked all-inclusive coasts in the Caribbean, but the country is bigger and more varied than one strip of sand. The north coast around Puerto Plata pairs beaches with mountains and waterfalls, Samana is wild and green with winter whales, and Santo Domingo holds the oldest colonial city in the Americas. Value is excellent, and the flight is one of the shortest to the deep Caribbean.
