Isla Mujeres is a slender, laid-back island just 13 km off Cancún in the Mexican Caribbean, reached by a quick ferry from the mainland. It's famous for Playa Norte — a shallow, glassy turquoise beach regularly ranked among the best in Mexico — plus golf-cart cruising, the clifftop Mayan temple at Punta Sur, and world-class snorkelling over reefs and the MUSA underwater sculpture museum. It's calmer and more intimate than Cancún, but sits in the Caribbean hurricane belt, so timing matters.
